Course Overview:
This modular course series introduces the air interface fundamentals. Each module focuses on one generation of technology (2G GSM, 3G WCDMA, 4G LTE and 5G NR) using clear explanations to make complex network behaviour easier to understand. This course is suitable for practitioners who work with cellular RF data, technology or evidence and want a clearer understanding of how mobile networks operate.
Key Topics:
How mobile devices find and connect to a cellular network
Techniques used to manage network resources shared between multiple users
Cell selection, reselection and handover as network conditions change
How calls and data sessions are maintained as a device moves between cells
How interference and network design can affect service and network connectivity
How these processes differ between 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G
Pre-Requisites:
Basic RF understanding recommended. Completion of RF Fundamentals (TSG-TRG-RFF) encouraged but not required.
Key Information:
1 Day per technology / Refresher Course: 2 Days
In-person
